Watercampus, Leeuwarden

My office at the time (HKB Stedenbouwkundigen) was asked to join the architectural firm CEPEZED in a competition for a new type of University building in the City of Leeuwarden (NL). HKB delivered the implementation of the building into the existing landscape and eco-system. By using the existing waterstructure as a physical element as well as an environmental asset to be used in the building’s inner climate, we have achieved that not only the building houses laboratories and testing space, but that the building itself is subject to it’s own programme. The plan is flexible to facilitate an expansion of 50% in building volume.
